With Chevereto v4.2.0, MySQL 8.0.1 or later is now required due to the need for Common Table Expressions (CTEs) to efficiently manage hierarchical data. While some parts of Chevereto may still function on MySQL 5, this older version is no longer officially supported, and it’s highly recommended to upgrade.

Using MySQL 8 brings significant performance, security, and compatibility improvements over MySQL 5. Running newer versions ensures you’re getting the most out of your database, with faster queries, better stability, and fewer vulnerabilities. If you’re still on MySQL 5, now is a great time to make the switch to stay up-to-date and fully supported.

While the software will get patched to hide these errors, the fundamental issue here is that you are missing extra functionality when you keep using MySQL 5.
