After going through installation steps it errors out at Error performing HTTP request and does not proceed. Currently using Xampp with apache on windows. Any idea what may cause this?

Currently trying to use the installer.php
Yeah i also tried the zip files and got a similar result as you. I now have the installer.php moved into the main directory which seems like it was going through until it ran into the HTTP error then cancelled itself out.

Use the manual installation procedure. The Installer is recommended for standard servers, any substandard server will have issues either installing or updating the software.
Your website throws an HTTP error, most likely your server setup is causing trouble.
