Beside Video support one of the most recommended features so far, at least in my opinion, and the best part of it is gonna be that we dont have to use third-party softwares like Disqus, keep it up, i def vote for yes!

comment with some of these options

1) notifications to users about the comment
2) able to tag other user profiles using @
3) upvote and downvote
4) reply to an existing comment
5) lock comment options on the user profile and so user can decide
6) lock comment after watching the comment for a while if it get out of hand

I am trying to implement a comment system and it is not easy. I don't want my users to connect to the comment system, but to use chevereto credential. You have systems like disqus or Hyvor Talk and you will have to pay for it to use SSO. I'm not going to pay 10€ a month for a site that is not generating any revenue. My site is just for a community to share photos. After you have a bunch of solution on GitHub. But if you are not in the IT world, it is not easy to install. So i would prefer definitively to have an embedded comment system in chevereto than loosing my time trying to implement a third party one.

no it has not, using disqus is a 3rd party feature, what people here refer to is built in stand alone comment system without needing to use disqus or any 3rd parties comment systems.
Exactly, I've tried Disqus, which in reality isn't bad at all and is pretty easy to set up, but I think it's a big disadvantage because it forces the user to sign up for another service and so you lose a bit of the community aspect of the site (even if they can indeed use the same name).

One thing at a time. Here's working on the tags and eventually comments. He acknowledged that it was popular.

Comments are an interesting thing, and even necessary somewhere. But!
Do not forget that you will have to moderate these comments. There will be a lot of spam!

Comments are crucial for social interaction on a community platform. When it comes to moderating comments, there are two main approaches:
  1. Full Control by the Administrator: This includes features like requiring comments to be approved before they are visible or offering comprehensive moderation tools.
  2. User-Driven Moderation: Giving users the choice to enable or disable comments on their own images/videos. If enabled, the user becomes responsible for moderating those comments.
Additionally, implementing a profanity filter is essential to maintain a respectful environment. Mechanisms to combat spambots, or at least make it harder for them to post, should also be included.

Other ideas to enhance social engagement include introducing user tagging in comments, which would make interactions between users more dynamic and appealing. Thinking on this scale and incorporating such features would significantly improve the social aspects of the platform.

I agree 100% it's quite important for the life of a community!
