Hey folks, my site is Photo Pallet and I am requesting assistance on how to upgrade from 4.0.8 to the current version. I have tried the instructions here, https://v4-docs.chevereto.com/application/installing/updating.html, but when I click the check upgrades button, it only links me to the updating.html page, and does not performt the upgrade. Any assistance is appreciated.

Of course, one-click upgrade was introduced in Chevereto v4.0.11, you are running 4.0.8 so the procedure for you is to download and unzip the update in the application filesystem.

The manual instructions for upgrading are the same as installing, https://v4-docs.chevereto.com/application/installing/installation.html#using-release-package (download the package, upload it to your server, unzip the file).

cPanel instructions: https://v4-docs.chevereto.com/guides/cpanel/app-files.html
Plesk instructions: https://v4-docs.chevereto.com/guides/plesk/app-files.html

The install instructions are not clear or do not work (for me)

I've uploaded chevereto_4.1.4_a63dcebd26aa.zip to the root of my SFTP folder, then logged in to the server using SSH and typed the following command unzip chevereto_4.1.4_a63dcebd26aa.zip -d public_html/

Then I got a logged extracting all the files looking something like this

...
inflating: public_html/app/vendor/php-ffmpeg/php-ffmpeg/src/FFMpeg/Coordinate/AspectRatio.php
inflating: public_html/app/vendor/php-ffmpeg/php-ffmpeg/src/FFMpeg/Coordinate/TimeCode.php

extracting: public_html/app/vendor/kevinlebrun/colors.php/src/Colors/Exception.php
inflating: public_html/app/vendor/mlocati/ip-lib/README.md
...

But my site is completely broken now. I'm trying top update from 4.0.9 to the latest version. I've download the version from https://chevereto.com/panel/downloads while logged in to my account

I've followed the following steps https://v4-docs.chevereto.com/application/installing/installation.html#using-installer-software now if I go do mydomain.com/

but currently when I go to /dashboard/settings I get the following error

Something went wrong

Updating from 4.0.9 to 4.0.10 does seem to work. I now tried my luck to update from 4.0.10 to the latest version and get on /dashboard

Error: Unable to load FFProbe: Executable not found, proposed : ffprobe, Unable to load FFProbe: Executable not found, proposed : ffprobe

And the whole upper navigation is not clickable.

Do I need to update from 4.0.9 to 4.0.10, 11, 12, ect?

Just did that and it just seems to break on 4.1.+

You can always update from 4.x to latest, the problem is that in some releases there are new system requirements or changes that could break your installation.

This usually is not an issue, but the longer you delay updates the worse it gets. There's also the cache factor for which you need to check to make sure you are loading the updated files.

Regarding the probe issue, that's self explanatory. It is saying that there's no ffmpeg in your installation. We distribute ffmpeg only via Docker, and VPS. We don't include ffmpeg in the chevereto zip file.

Ok, my issue is that if I update beyond 4.0.x the update fails (or at least my site doesn't work anymore)

What are the requirements for 4.1.x, because I can't see anything logical on my end what I'm missing and on the download page there are not requirements listed.

You can start reviewing the changes/requirements here: https://releases.chevereto.com/4.X/4.1/4.1.0.html (4.1.0 to 4.1.4)

There's a log report which you are ignoring:

Finally figured it out. The theme was causing the issue! Just had a hunch an moved back to "Peafowl" which made everything work again. There was nothing in the logs or anything that could hint at this issue, so I'm also still nog sure what the issue was.

I just showed you the "something went wrong" and instead of investigate that you tell us that you don't know what happened.

🤷
