Illegal string offset API

I'm monitoring the nginx error log and see a few entries like the following:

2015/06/11 22:07:00 [error] 2183#0: *123478 FastCGI sent in stderr: "PHP message: PHP Warning: Illegal string offset 'is_admin' in /var/www/html/app/lib/classes/class.image.php on line 494" while reading response header from upstream, client: 98.112.227.107, server: , request: "POST /api/1/upload HTTP/1.0", upstream: "fastcgi://unix:/var/run/php5-fpm.sock:", host: "gagr.com"


I wanted to know if you have any idea why?

It has been already reported and it will get fixed in 3.6.5
