Underscores in users

it'll say "can't connect to database" when entered with a username & password without an underscore that is wrong
but when it has an underscore and is correct, it comes up with a server error 500
 
I've just set both user and password with underscore on the demo and it works fine. Are you sure about this?
 
This is the problem:
