Turn off Duplicate image detection

I'd like the ability to turn off duplicate image detection, maybe in the settings?

I saw the other posts suggestion redirection to existing file, that would be fine too.

I just don't like the errors.

Duplicate detection works only for same IP + same image in a given period of time. It doesn't touch other users uploads. I don't see the need of disable such feature, it will only be noticeable for those who are uploading the same images in a given period of time.

I understand, I guess I notice it more because most of my images are coming through the API through a couple of IP addresses... all they see is an error.

API is the same thing as the normal upload, so why you want to allow a couple IPs to upload the same content over and over? Most likely someone is trying to flood your website and Chevereto does protect you from flood and from duplicate ip based uploads.

I think the answer to this is probably not to display an error... but to return the 'existing' image details.
Therefore, the user doesn't detect any problems, and we all save space on duplicated content. Win win ๐Ÿ™‚

The duplicate detector fires only when the same person (IP) wants to upload the same thing. It doesn't fire when an image already exists from another IP.

I understand that.
I've had a couple of emails this week regarding this feature and the error message that it produces.
It generally comes from 'guest' uploaders... They have uploaded an image, and then several days later they have attempted to upload it again - I guess to get another link because they've misplaced the first one? I don't know...
But whatever the reason, they have been presented with the error message.
They have then contacted me via the contact form.

I just think instead of producing an error message, just return the existing image ID and URL.

Well, yes it makes sense but I rather focus in optimizations more needed at this time. Users who doesn't know what they are uploading are not a big concern vs other things more important at this time.

That's perfectly fine.
I'm not expecting this to be in the next release. I'm just giving a few examples as to why the error message solution to the duplicate content isn't the best one. Continue working on the optimizations.

BTW, if you still want to look at my site as per our previous conversations then just let me know.
Thanks

I'm still moving out and last days I worked in some heavy coding for the next release so I didn't get time to check your site.

Since v3.7.6 you will be able to enable/disable duplicate uploads.
