I have no plans in support a browser that last "final" release was in 2009. I know that it not solves your issue at all but as things evolves I can't go back to make every old browser capable.

Now, 2.X cycle is over and I won't spend time on it unless is strictly necessary. This is because all my efforts are in V3. And before you ask, there are a few issues with V3 and IE8 due to the lack of support of modern technologies. If I found an easy and quick hack (like a polyfill) for all the missing functions is most likely that I will add it to the system, but if I notice that it slows me down full IE8 support will be pushed down because is not a priority.

Most likely I will issue a final 2.X release (2.6) after 3.0, and it will include support for non flash devices (ios), perhaps IE8 fix, and other goodies. But like I said, I want to work in V3 for now and I hope that you understand why I'm taking this decision.

Cheers.
