Mysterious blank directory needed error on fresh install

This is what I'm getting.

It's weird also because I had the July version of chevereto installed and working fine, went to update to the latest one. Boom bye bye. :(

chmod 777'd the dirs, still no luck. Refreshed a new .htaccess, nothing, the old .htaccess, nothing. Stumped.

BUT! On another domain on the server, chevereto 3.5.17 is working and installed fine. So I'm really lost atm.
