Mandrill No More! (SMTP and Chevereto)

Mandrill announced that they are doing away with Mandrill and incorporating it into paid accounts at Mailchimp... Sad day for me as that means I have to move a handful of sites over... Leh sigh!

Anyway... I'd suggest folks try out MailGun by Rackspace I tend to like to go with proven companies for things like this as it nearly guarantees you won't have future problems.

Another possible option is Amazon SES, but this is only really a valid option if you use EC2 and can run your site through there as the freebies only apply for it.

Third option I've looked at is Postmark, but don't know much about them or their parent company so I've decided to go with Rackspace having used them in business environments in the past.

Any other good transactional email companies you can think of folks?

Basically what Mailchimp is doing is forcing us to buy a Mailchimp subscription to keep using Mandrill even in the free tier, if you are wise enough you will find that this subscription (lowest price) is $9/mo. This is obviously a desperate move, no question about it.

FYI, Amazon SES can be used via EC2, API and SMTP. Actually I use Amazon SES for the Chevereto newsletter.

I start also already to change to MailGun. I have no problem to pay for a service - I use a lot of payed services. But I don't like the way, how Mandrill/Mailchimp change her rules. It would be ok to do this for new accounts, but do it also for existing customers will be end into a lot of deletions of (possible future payed) accounts.

I agree. I think those of us who have accounts should be grandfathered in and little changed... This doesn't make me want to use Mailchimp (Even though it's what I use when I manage Newsletters for corporate clients)... This makes me want to turn away from them, and as a major advocate for them and someone who has brought them customers of the paid nature... This is kind of a sad outcome.

I won't have issues to pay Mandrillapp but the move vas very odd. Force you to have a Mailchimp membership is just plain stupid.
