Making users have to log in would be wonderful, and having a page where all of their uploads can be found as well. E.G. Google Photos, where random images are shown, you can click on the uploader and see all of their uploads.

Other request, Have a real time news feed on the side or bottom or top or anywhere :L which shows most recent uploads.

When will the next version be out?
 
2.4 will be released on late september, about the other request... The users are planed for 4.0
 
Actually this is off-the record, 4.0 has no date so far. But the general plan is:

2.X : Finish the template system and new uploader (2012)
3.0 - 3.X : The full admin panel with options to control all the system (2013)
4.0 - 4.X : User accounts and revenues based on that (2013)

At this point if you are in a rush you could get the AUS mod which is focused in extend Chevereto. It's being made by a friend (Lautaro) and I collaborate with him pretty close to make it's life easier with this mod and the new releases.
