No, I don't think that is possible. If you have issues with smtp the best thing that you can do is just use mandrillapp.com

Mandrill is beyond lovely. I've been using them for a couple years and it's helped with deliverability of my sites dramatically. At times major email providers would start to complain that we send too many emails... When all these emails were were sign up confirmations and password recovery... Mandrill has dramatically helped to keep my servers off a bad sender lists.
