For the folks who run big boards (which I used to). How are you making money to cover the cost of the server(s)? With image hosting it is quite easy to gain traffic, which in turn can lead to large bw bills.
Not looking for the secret sauce, justcurious really.
It was easy to make money a decade ago before ad blockers. Now with AdBlockers it's much harder.
Most people are using them. I am happy about ad blockers because it had cleaned up sites a lot and we don't have to worry about malware.
I use ad blockers for everything. I haven't seen an ad for years on YouTube.
You can still do ad companies like mentioned above but the problem I find is most of the advertisements are junk. They are dating sites which are not really dating sites. They just want you to sign up so they get paid or the ad links to malware sites.
I realized it's better to sell your own ads and only accept quality sites.
It's definitely harder to make money these days and google doesn't seem to rank forums.
There is a revolution coming. Are you guys using Nostr? It's a decentralized social media.
When you create a post users will like the content and every like turns into money.
They use Satoshis from the Bitcoin lighting network.
I think forums and image hosting sofwate will adopt this type of system. It must require a lot of knowledge to implement that type of system but it's coming.
