Looking at purchasing the network bundle:

1. Is there a taxonomy system in place, planned or already deemed out of scope?
2. How extendable is the platform?
3. How do updates work/get applied?

For context I'm looking to add a PayPal button in specific categories for people to buy products related to the photos. I understand some of the things I want may already be deemed out of scope but am I able to build in a few things without violating the terms or prevent future upgrade.

Overall this platform looks great & is super easy to use!

1. No, there isn't support for taxonomy system.
2. It depends what are your parameters, it could be very limited or highly extensible.
3. At this time updates works by just overwrite the default files.

System has built in theme support so you can take the default theme and start adding your own stuff.
