Is it possible and if possible, then how, to transfer files that were previously saved locally to an external drive, so that the system would remain operational?

1. Add your new external storage to the external storage option
2. Move your files from local to external storage via rsync
3. Goto tool and migrate your images records from your local to external storage
4. Make a redirect rule for all your old images to external storage domain name

Example: x-x-x.me/xxxx.jpg to xx.x-x-x.me/xxx.jpg and so all your old images which are linked never get broke
