What do you mean? In my php settings the upload limit is set to 100MB.

Then you have an misconfiguration in your setup. I use SSL on NGINX and PHP7 - but don't use Apache2. And I had no issues.

50 MiB per image is quite a lot. "JPG PNG BMP GIF MAX 50 MB"

The megabyte limit is per image, not the total (@Rodolfo should be able to confirm)

Status update:
We host already 5.776 pics, 10 users and use 2.2Gb space.

Update:
We are now using only HTTPS for alle requests.
Our complete site is 100% https.
