Is hard to guess that. Pretty please, add information like where is hosted, what version are you running and so on.
Based on post, the error is just gd library or maybe chmod on folders.

I have the same error. Remote uploading don't work. It tells "remote fatal error, check your data".

I am having trouble uploading images from the internet..
I get these errors:

Warning: imagecreatefromstring() [function.imagecreatefromstring]: Empty string or invalid image in /home/www/fotolen.com/engine.php on line 278

Warning: imagedestroy(): supplied argument is not a valid Image resource in /home/www/fotolen.com/engine.php on line 283

Anyone got any ideas why?
